Mommies and Makeup
by Sherry Backman
What I hear most from moms about makeup and skincare is - “Who has the
time??? Well I am here to say, you do. Don’t get me wrong, I do not expect
you to sit down everyday to apply an hour’s worth of makeup to go to the
supermarket, but a mom needs to feel good about herself - and yes, it should
come from within. But if you have been up with a baby all night, had a sick
toddler, and you are rushing doing carpool and attending soccer games,
beauty from within can be lacking.
Here are a couple of easy tips to look and feel good.
• Always wash and moisturize your face - you have a minute to do this, I know
you do. You will keep your pores from getting clogged and soft skin always
makes a woman feel good. Try to use a moisturizer with sunscreen to cut down
on time and help with anti-aging.
• Have a good and simple makeup routine that works. I love mineral foundation
for this purpose. Swipe on with a fluffy brush all over your cheeks, chin
and forehead. You feel like you have nothing on, but the beauty of mineral
foundation is that you do, and you will get a fresh even skin tone in no
time. Also mineral foundation is good for your skin and will last all day.
• Concealer. There is no substitute for a creamy under eye concealer to cover
dark circles (see reference above of baby up all night) and brighten up the most
tired eyes. If you apply a little eye cream before, you will get the added
advantage of moisturizing fine lines for an even better look.
• Eye Base. What is eye base you ask? This creamy creation is applied to the
lids of the eyes. For woman who wear eye shadow, you use this product
to increase the staying power of your eye shadow. For others, it is a quick pick
me up, helps brighten the eyes for a fast refresher. Many woman dab a little of
this and run.
• Multi-purpose makeup. We carry multi-glow. It is a cream based product that
you can apply to your cheeks, lips and eyes for a fast makeup routine that will
leave you looking like you fussed, when you didn’t.
• A great color lipstick or lip gloss can make any woman look fabulous. Lip balm
is moisturizer, but does nothing for your looks. Try to avoid nudes that may make
you look washed out. Try a bright apricot, a rich mauve or a shimmer bronze to
attract attention to your beautiful smile. Lip glosses are great too, but may need
to be applied more often. If you follow the above regimen, it would take you 5- 10
minutes tops. You will notice how much better you will feel and will get noticed
by other mom’s wondering what your trick is. Even if you begin by doing one of
the suggested tips, I think it will make a difference.
