       Karina's Top 5 Halloween Safety Tips        

Costumes Should Be:
→ Flame retardant.
No longer than ankle length to avoid tripping.
→ Masks should not impair vision.
→ Be sure your child is visible - carry a flashlight or use reflective tape.

Candy  - Check All Candy For:
→ Tampering
→ Choking hazards for young children.
→ Food Allergens

Toy Weapons Should Be Used Responsibly:
→ If using a toy gun, make sure it has an orange plug or does not resemble a real gun.
→ If your child has access to a real gun or martial arts weapons, make sure they are not used on Halloween.
→  Remind your child that guns should NEVER be pointed at anyone.

Flames
Be sure to protect your child from flames while trick-or-treating.
→ Use one of the many other options to light your pumpkin, ie: flashlights, battery operated candles.

Stranger Danger is Real Even on Halloween

→ Remind your child not to eat any candy until you've checked it.
→ Make it clear that they should never go into any strange houses even though it's Halloween. 
     Haunted Houses can be tempting for children to explore - remind them that this can be very dangerous.
→ If you have older children who will be going out alone, make sure you map out a route and that they stick to it.
→ Decide on a time your older child should be home and if they don't return, look for them on the route.
