The Breath of Life

The Breath of LIfe
by Letha Hadady
It doesn't take much imagination to understand the link between deep
breathing, relaxation and basic health. Yoga, the martial arts, acting,
and vocal performance all stress the importance of breath. Oxygen in
the cells helps prevent illness and decay. In the brain it improves
memory and concentration. Today, in southern California where life,
limb and home are threatened by fire, we need natural ways to
breathing, vitality and mental balance. Watching television coverage
of the California fires, I was struck by the courage and concern of one
young mother who had removed her baby to a shelter because the
little one has asthma. Here are foods and household herbs to reduce
stress and help rebuild the body after extreme heat and stress.

Foods that 'Refresh" the Lungs:
Asian healing arts offer practical rejuvenation methods. Among them
are foods and herbs to rebuild damaged, dehydrated tissue. Moisturizing
foods and herbs also prevent aging, chronic stress and fevers. Some of
them are:
• Cooked oatmeal served with milk is full of minerals and water
• Asparagus (raw or steamed) provides hormones for health and beauty
• Vegetable soups are nourishing and easy to digest. Add cooling spices:
cumin, fennel seeds, and mint
• Soft cooked grains like wheat, quinoa, rice moisten and support health
• Yogurt makes a cooling snack that supports digestive balance.
• Fresh greens and multi-colored vegetables contain water and minerals
• Sprouts are full of energy and silica the building blocks of hair, skin and
bones. Soak organic seeds in water in a jar overnight. Choose a cool dark
place to keep them. Then rinse them several times daily until they sprout.
• Milk (I prefer goat milk which is easier to digest) is a whole food that
protects delicate lung tissue. Shortness of breath can be improved with a
dash of clove or cardamon powder in yogurt or milk.
• Almonds (unsalted) provide excellent protein and soothe dryness
• Real Lemon juice and honey in hot water make a fine beverage for
hoarseness and sore throat
Healing, Moistening Herbs:
Moistening, rejuvenating herbs work by revamping dehydrated tissue
of internal organs, increasing fluids, and reducing stress for improved
relaxation and sleep.
• Chinese White fungus (tremella) cooked in soups, oatmeal or with
pasta moistens the lungs. Soak a piece of the white fungus in water for
20 min. Cut it into smaller pieces and simmer in water for about 30
minutes until done. It is tasteless, spongy and flexible not mushy.
Tremella--extremely beautifying for aging dry skin and cough--can
substitute for rice or other grains in a weight loss diet.
• East Indian Shilajet capsules (1 or 2 daily) taken between meals or
without food at bedtime, reduce stress, rejuvenate internal organs,
improve internal moisture and ease sleep because they are made of
processed bitumen, which is rich in minerals and amino acids. Taken
regularly, Shilajet improves hair and skin quality and increases fluids
including sexual fluids (semen and vaginal comfort for post-
  menopausal dryness.)
Drinking lots of water does not necessarily help replenish the lungs
because you get rid of water quickly in urine. The body has to be
encouraged to hold its moisture in the lungs by using the above foods
  and herbs.
Some cough remedies also help. For example, loquat syrup is sweet
enough for kids to enjoy. Avoid all cough remedies that suppress cough--
Who needs a sedative when it is already hard to breathe!
Avoid hot spices, salty foods, and irritants–including grumpy people.

Homeopathic Remedies for Emotional Balance
They are small white pills sold in healthfood stores or pharmacies without
a prescription. Use one of these as directed between meals without food,
beverage or toothpaste. Let the pills melt under your tongue or melt a few
in a glass of water that you sip during the day.
• Anxiety - homeopathic gelsemium 30C
• Bruises - homeopathic arnica 30C
• Shortness of Breath with Wheezing and thick, pale phlegm and
uncontrolled weeping - homeopathic pulsatilla 30C
Sometimes a dose or two of the right homeopathic remedy can improve
body and spirit quickly. They are easy to use for children or the elderly.

Homeopathy is a really good

Homeopathy is a really good natural treatment for many things, as discussed in the article it helps in controlling the emotional balance and helps a person to feel comfortable even in the most rigid situations. Homeopathy hits is rather a more systematic herbal than symptomatic. Even certain FLU and Sinus problems are solved through sinusitis homeopathy.
