Watching the Grass Grow

After years of trying to decide whether I wanted to build
a patio or grow grass in the old spot where our jacuzzi used
to be, I finally "committed" to growing grass and if I didn't
like it I would just lay brick down over it. Brilliant,
or at least better than staring at the gaping hole in the
middle of our yard for another minute. So I talked to my
landscaper who gave me a quote I couldn't stomach to resod
the whole yard - which would have to be done if I wanted it
to look right - and figured I would go the seeding route,
which was a teeny fraction of the cost but takes way longer
to see results.

Well, it's been several weeks now and I have to admit that
for a while there, I was hugely discouraged; going out every
morning and staring at the level dirt patch, willing it to
grow - unsuccessfully, I might add. I kept telling myself
that I would wait one more day and then I was going to bite
the bullet and resod. Mostly wishful thinking as I am on an
extreme budget these days. Then one morning I went out and
spotted the smallest blade of grass. As silly as it sounds
I was ecstatic at the sight. "I knew you could do it," I
told the little green blade swaying in the wind - now I'm
talking to turf, believe me, I know but it really filled me
with such a sense of accomplishment and joy that I couldn't
help myself. As the days passed, more and more grass filled
in the dirt patch and didn't seem to need my cheering on
anymore, it was of on it's own.

So despite being an instant gratification kinda girl by nature,
I'm so glad I went the slower route and got a chance to watch
the grass grow one little seed at a time.

Happiness is in the small things that one day will be big-
much like our kids. Enjoy them!
